Meet Your District 3 Candidates
If you are a member of District 3 (Killarney/Ninette/Cartwright/Swan Lake/Pilot Mound/La Riviere/Winnipeg), please exercise your democratic right to vote in this election. You can vote at a kiosk in branch, or online through a link on our website. Voting is open at 9:00 a.m. Monday, March 19th, 2018 and closes at 12:00 p.m. Friday, March 23rd, 2018. Below are the names and biographies of your candidates.
There is one opening in District 3 this year. District 3 members can vote for one candidate. This candidate will serve a three-year term.
The Board of Directors of Westoba Credit Union Ltd. recognizes that a strong Board will be comprised of Directors possessing an ideal combination of skills, experience and attributes. In 2018 special consideration will be given to “Audit & Financial” knowledge & “Information Technology” knowledge. We ask you please take this into consideration when choosing your candidate.
The director will be elected prior to the Annual General Meeting. The elected director will be announced here at westoba.com in late April.
Annette J. Renwick Horst
Annette was born and raised on a farm in South Western Manitoba. She graduated from Melita High School in 1992 and attended Brandon University where she received a Bachelor of Arts. She attended the Faculty of Law Robson Hall at the University of Manitoba, graduating with a law degree in 1998. She articled in The Pas and was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1999. She practiced law in Brandon for three years and then returned to live in The Pas until 2015. She’s now living and practicing law in Winnipeg with Legal Aid Manitoba, Child Protection Law Office.
Annette is married and has two sons, Travis and Jack.
She’s served as President of the Manitoba Bar Association, a branch of the Canadian Bar Association. She was the National Treasure of the Canadian Bar Association for five years and a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Bar Association for seven years. She served as a director and secretary for the not-for-profit daycare center, Marigold Preschool, in The Pas. She’s currently a Bencher of the Law Society of Manitoba.
Douglas Kimani Wanyoike
Douglas is a Canadian citizen, born and raised in Kenya. He moved to the United States of America in 1998 and later to Canada in 2009. He’s married and blessed with two beautiful daughters and a son.
He’s currently employed by Paradigm Consulting Group Inc. as a Business Systems Analyst. He’s implementing a Guideware Strategic Systems Renewal project for a major insurance company in Winnipeg. Douglas’s professional work experience in Healthcare, Insurance, and Social Media Advertising dealing with on premise, SAAS and PAAS environments has prepared him for this opportunity.
He founded and operated a telecom company in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which enabled customers to make affordable local, domestic and international calls online using voiceover internet protocol (VOIP). He also negotiated, purchased and configured routes with various telecom carriers, processed payments and reconciled bank payments with sales.
His passion in cyber and information security has led him to pursue certifications in Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCIP) and Cybersecurity Nexus (CSX). He also has certifications in Project Management, Change Management, Information Technology Infrastructure Library and Lean Six Sigma.
*Each year the Board evaluates and identifies any critical skills, experience or expertise that would contribute to the future of Westoba. This year the Board is looking for candidates with strong information technology, finance and audit experience to enhance the board composition. The Nominations and Elections Committee has decided to endorse two candidates who would bring the most overall value to the Board, if elected this year. The Nominations and Elections Committee works hard to remain impartial and objective.
HOW TO VOTE
We encourage all eligible members to take part in setting the direction for our credit union. Eligible members may vote by using our very simple and secure voting system either online or at an in-branch kiosk. ONLINE VOTING OPENS March 19, 2018 AND CLOSES AT 12:00 PM ON March 23, 2018
